We get a steady trickle of messages from people considering a month or two working from Paphos rather than just visiting it. It's a fair question — Cyprus is an EU member state, the weather cooperates most of the year, and Paphos is small enough that "commute" mostly means a walk. This is what we tell them, based on actually living and working here rather than a one-week scouting trip.

Local note

Internet is genuinely reliable in Kato Paphos and Ktima — the gaps show up more in smaller inland villages, so it's worth checking a specific building's connection before committing to a long-stay booking outside the main town.

Where to base yourself

Kato Paphos and Ktima cover most of what a longer stay needs — cafés, a supermarket within walking distance, and a reasonable spread of long-term rental listings. Ktima in particular skews more local and residential, which suits a stay measured in weeks rather than days better than the resort strip does.

Wifi and workspace

Most cafés in Kato Paphos and Ktima are comfortable for a few hours of laptop work, though few are built for a full working day — plan to rotate locations or invest in a coworking desk if you're here longer than a couple of weeks. A handful of coworking spaces have opened in Paphos and Limassol in recent years, generally with day passes as well as monthly plans.

Cost of living

Cyprus runs cheaper than most Western European capitals but isn't a budget destination in the way parts of Southeast Asia are — groceries and eating out land somewhere in the middle of the EU range, while long-term rent varies a lot by season and how close to the coast you want to be. Winter rates for monthly rentals are noticeably lower than summer ones.

The digital nomad visa

Cyprus runs a digital nomad visa program for non-EU remote workers employed by companies outside Cyprus, allowing a stay of up to a year with the option to renew. As an EU citizen, this specific visa isn't something you'd need — freedom of movement already covers your stay — but it's worth knowing about if you're coordinating a trip with a non-EU partner or colleague.
